Power & Control

I just finished Control.
It is such a good game. SUCH A GOOD GAME. How did I hear nothing about it?
After years of being invested in open world games, playing a game with a strong narrative driven experience has been so refreshing. And it's good. The writing is good, the characters are good, the environment so distinct. It's like if Portal/Half-Life, Prey and X-Files had a baby, and that baby also had solid writing, and also that baby had telekinesis.
Did I mention? Telekinesis!!! The combat is so fun with the added dimension of launching shit at your enemies. The environment becomes a weapon as much as your physical weapon. The quests are so fun, with a mix of MQ/Side quests. Never has a piece of media ever made me so afraid of a rubber duck, or a fridge, yet here we are. And the questing is non-linear, too, which I enjoy. Once a few areas open up, you're free to explore.
The protag is great. I found myself very invested in her, which was neat. I can't say much without ruining the story, but it's very enjoyable.
She's also the leather jacket bi lady we all need in our lives, like, I mean.

Also the game has a photomode, and I did find myself having to just stop to soak in the aesthetic. It's so funky. I fucking love it. This is my current desktop wallpaper. No spoilers!
And when it comes to lore, ohhhhh this game has lore. It's wonderful. Paced well. I freaking love it.
Also it was great to have a majority of the main characters be women. None are sexualised; they are all very accomplished in their respective fields and interesting. (The setting of this game puts Fo4's Institute to absolute shame and makes me yell at the wasted potential, but oh well.)
Annnd I sHIP THEM TO HIGH HEAVEN!!!!!!! AND WITH GOOD REASON!!!
If you find yourself wanting a game to sink your teeth into, Control is it.
